SUMMARY

 

Under the general supervision of a Physician performs duties in accordance with those prescribed by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), Florida Statutes and Leon Medical Centers policies and procedures. This position is responsible for administering medications prescribed by Physicians and taking note of how the patient is reacting to their treatment periodically.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assessing complex patient wounds.
  2. Cleaning patient wounds to remove bacteria and debris and minimize the risk of infection
  3. Dressing patient wounds to create a barrier against bacteria
  4. Teaching patients and caregivers how to treat and dress wounds to assist healing and prevent infection at home
  5. Giving verbal instruction and writing down a care plan for patients to follow at home
  6. Completing documentation for patient records and insurance reimbursement
  7. Prepares documentation for medical records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and test results, and treatment in written/computerized manner.
  8. May participate in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  9. Functions within the professional Nursing Code of Ethics, maintains licensure and attends educational conferences to maintain current knowledge and skill level in the nursing field.
  10. Follows established lines of communication, authority and demonstrates courtesy, and politeness to patients, visitors and other employees.
  11. Leads or participates in training and in-service education as required.
  12. Complies with LMC's infection control policies and procedures including Body Substance Isolation and the exposure Control Plan that reflects OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
  13. Performs other related duties assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be patient in dealing with an elderly population and sensitive to hearing or vision deficiencies. Individual must have excellent oral and written skill. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to interpret complex medical data. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to manage multiple priorities, colleagues, and initiatives or projects simultaneously. Ability to work under pressure, exceptional time-management and problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Possess diagnostic skills to assess patient wounds and determine the best way to treat them. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of wounds, common treatment options and how to apply them. Must know the signs of infection.

 

 

EDUCATION

 

Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Successful completion of registered training and certification.

 

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Some (one to three years) experience working as a wound care nurse is preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Fluent in English and Spanish.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

Requires a full and unencumbered Florida license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse that must be maintained throughout employment in accordance with Florida Statutes.

 

Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Must have Wound care certification.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work schedule is approximate and hours/days may change based on company needs. All full-time employees are required to complete forty (40) hours per week as scheduled, including on weekends and holidays.

Individual will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.

 

This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Engerix Hepatitis B vaccination series. The work is performed indoors.
