Job Description

Summary: Leon Medical Centers is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a sterile and organized environment from pre-op to post-op, serving as the surgeon's third hand.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and Maintain the Operating Room: Ensure the operating room is set up properly, including sterile field preparation, and that all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are available for the surgical team.
  • Patient Care and Positioning: Ensure the patient is safely positioned for surgery and that they are appropriately draped. Monitor the patient’s comfort and well-being throughout the procedure.
  • Maintain Sterile Environment: Ensure that sterile techniques are strictly followed and maintain the sterile field during surgery. The circulator assists with bringing in and passing sterile supplies while avoiding contamination.
  • Monitor the Surgical Procedure: Oversee the surgical process, ensuring that the surgical team has everything they need. This includes keeping track of surgical instruments, sponges, and other items to prevent anything from being left inside the patient.
  • Assist the Surgical Team: Communicate with the surgical team to provide additional supplies, medications, and instruments during the procedure. Ensure any special requests from the surgeon are met promptly.
  • Document and Record: Maintain accurate records, including documenting the surgical procedure, medication administration, and patient status throughout the surgery.
  • Coordinate Communication: Serve as the communication liaison between the surgical team and other medical staff (e.g., anesthesia team, other departments), ensuring that everyone is informed of the surgery's progress.
  • Post-Surgery Duties: Assist in preparing the patient for transfer to recovery, ensuring that any post-operative instructions are followed and communicated to the recovery team.

Skills / Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure sterile practices and proper surgical instrument counts.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong communication skills to work with surgeons, nurses, and patients.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Requirements:

  • Requirements:

    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
    • Expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.
    • Knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
