Patient Care Specialist

SUMMARY

The Patient Care Specialist is responsible for processing medical equipment orders within the organization. This process consists of verifying patient and order information, coverage and authorizations; and placing orders through our electronic system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs initial processing of all orders including, but not limited to Ambulatory, Bathroom Aides, Hospital Beds, Standard Wheelchairs, Cpap/Bipap, Trach/Suction setup, Oximetry, Ostomy and Motorized/Customized Wheelchairs Orders.
  2. Reviews patient demographics, verify eligibility and/or authorization.
  3. Learns and implements Medicare guidelines.
  4. Maintains compliance with HIPAA standards of patient and confidentiality.
  5. Provides telephonic support to patient inquires/services calls.
  6. Handles all Service assessment calls.
  7. Handles New Patient Transitions and ensures that equipment is properly transitioned.
  8. Works with Dispatch on ETA Calls.
  9. Follows through an order from beginning to end. Provides Physician and patient with updates as needed.
  10. Achieves a minimum of 20-25 orders processed a day.
  11. Handles complaint calls and facilitates solutions for patients and providers.
  12. Follows equipment recovery processes if and when a patient needs a pick-up of equipment, or a patient cannot be located.
  13. Rotates On-Call for a week including Saturday rotation.
  14. Rotates Holidays as needed.
  15. Works disenrollment reports.
  16. Rotates on-call whenever needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Medical Background knowledge preferred.

Required to uphold the principles of compliance as outlined in the Code of Conduct, Employee Handbook and related policies and procedures. Supports and participates in the mandatory Corporate Compliance Program training initiative on an annual or more frequent basis, as required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years DME experience

EDUCATION

At minimum High School Diploma or GED. Graduate Degree preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Fluent in English and Spanish required.
