Optometric Technician
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. In this role, you will assist optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services to patients. Your responsibilities will include performing preliminary eye exams, managing patient records, and supporting the overall efficiency of the practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, as well as experience in retail sales and medical billing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform pre-testing procedures such as visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception tests.
- Assist with patient history taking and documenting relevant information in medical records.
- Conduct specialized testing procedures such as visual field testing, retinal imaging, and corneal topography.
- Prepare patients for examinations by the optometrist, including dilation of pupils.
- Assist with contact lens fittings and provide instructions on lens insertion, removal, and care.
- Educate patients on proper eyewear selection based on prescription and lifestyle needs.
- Maintain inventory of optical supplies.
- Collaborate with the front desk staff to schedule appointments and manage patient flow.
- Maintains open channels of communication with center administration and other company departments; Answers all inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Complies with Leon Medical Centers’ policies and procedures and maintains confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Ability to adjust based on business/department needs.
- Effective communication (listening, verbal and written) skills.
- Ability to provide clear instructions
- Good organization/attention to detail.
- Knowledge of optometric systems and electronic health record software.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document patient information.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one (1) of experience as an optometric technician or in a similar role is preferred.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification or training in optometry is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluent in English and Spanish.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Ophthalmic Technician Certification is Preferred
