Skills / Requirements
The Certified Professional Coder must have working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology as well as basic pharmacology. Individual must possess knowledge of human disease and it manifestations. Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM coding and ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM coding concepts is required. At least one (1) year coding experience working in various aspects of data integration for a healthcare provide. Proficiency in working with Hierarchy Coding Conditions (HCC) is required.
Individual must be able to operate general office equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, facsimile machines, copiers and printers. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Ability to function under a stressful environment, work independantly and meet a variety of deadlines. Individual should be detail-oriented and possess a variety of research skills.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Foreign medical graduate or RN/LPN; or equivalent work experience.
Fluent in English and Spanish is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
- Certification (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P) from a National Coding Organization such as AHIMA or AAPC is required.
- Coding Certificate from an accredited coding program or equivalent work experience required.
- Certified in ICD-10-CM is Preferred
